After years of discussions and arguments about where the new Mukilteo City Hall will be located, the city has just announced on their website that the groundbreaking will take place at 4pm on Tuesday, March 4. The new location will be at 11930 Cyrus Way, at the corner of Harbour Pointe Boulevard Southwest and Cyrus Way. This location is right across the street from the Degginger Mackintosh insurance agency, in the southwest end of Harbour Pointe.
According to the city website:
Mukilteo City Hall’s environmentally friendly architecture and building construction will be built according to national Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards in an effort to conserve energy, contribute to community sustainability, as well as setting a standard for other community development. The landscape design compliments the natural attributes of the site, the building, and includes a public gathering space, a fountain, and native planting.
A construction contract was awarded to Sierra Construction Co., Inc., of Woodinville, WA, to build the two-story, 19,000 sq. ft building. The project is slated to begin construction in March, 2008, with occupancy in early 2009.
The new digs will be anxiously awaited by all in the city, as the city offices are currently housed in a less than elegant commercial/industrial area of Harbour Pointe, and are difficult to find if you don’t already know where the offices are.
